Six cancer research centers at prestigious U.S. academic institutions have jointly received a $540 million boost in funding from the international Ludwig Cancer Research community. Recipients include Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, MIT, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford University and the University of Chicago. The Ludwig Centers were established at each of the 6 institutions in 2006 with an initial endowment of $900 million. This new funding ranks among the largest private philanthropic gifts to cancer research, according to a press release.
